Directions to Our Practice

If you’ve never been to our practice in Wichita before, here are two easy routes you could take: 

 

1. Head north into the city. If you prefer the I-35, stay on that until exit 50, then turn right onto Kellogg Dr and immediately left onto Webb Rd. Continue until you pass the Eastminster Presbyterian Church, and we’re in the next block north on the right, at 2020 N Webb Rd Ste 301.
2. If you’d rather avoid the I-35, you could take Broadway and the I-135 into Wichita. Take exit 5B onto Kellogg Dr. then turn left onto Webb Rd and continue the same as in the above directions.

 

How Much Local History Do You Know?

The Belle Plaine Town Company was founded on January 1, 1871, when its founders purchased just under 320 acres of land for $399.99, at a cost of $1.25 per acre. The founding members included George A. and James L. Hamilton, Jasper L. Kellogg, William P. Hackney, E.M. Miller, William and Thomas J. Barton, John Lewis, William R.C. Chamberlain, and J.C. Thurman, for whom the town’s first building was constructed. James Hamilton opened the first business on February 25 of that same year.

 

The town’s original boundaries were plotted in 1883, stretching from 7th Avenue on the north to 1st Avenue on the south, and from Line Street on the west to Logan on the east. On March 20, 1884, community leaders signed the Petition for the Incorporation of Belle Plaine as a City of the Third Class. At the time, the local newspaper reported a population of approximately 1,000 residents. Today, that number has grown to around 1,500.

 

In its early years, Belle Plaine was a lively and well-equipped small town. It was home to a flour mill, a grain elevator, a newspaper, two large hotels, a bank, three churches, a grade school, a stagecoach stop, a carriage factory, a blacksmith shop, and two brick factories. At various points in its history, the town also supported two banks, two newspapers, a sawmill, an opera house, and even a roller skating rink. Just north of town stood a popular dance hall known as the Green Frog. Three railroads once served Belle Plaine: the AT&S along the west edge, the Missouri-Pacific along the south, and the Midland Valley on the east, reflecting the town’s importance as a regional hub in its early days.
