Periodontal Services
  • Bone Grafts

Your bone tissue may deteriorate due to gum disease, missing teeth, or other factors. When this occurs, our dentists can provide you with a bone graft to help you regain healthy bone tissue and receive a dental implant. We will transplant a synthetic piece of bone or an artificial bone material to your mouth where needed. Your jawbone will then grow together with the grafted bone tissue, creating a stronger, more stable foundation.

  • Gum Grafts

A gum graft may be needed to correct gingival recession or to improve the appearance of an uneven gum line. During the gum grafting procedure, our dentists will stitch grafting tissue onto the area of the gums that needs additional tissue. Based on your particular needs and desires, the tissue graft may be taken from another area of your mouth or from a tissue bank.

  • Crown Lengthening

Sometimes you can have too much gum tissue, resulting in a “gummy” smile. Our skilled dentists provide crown lengthening treatments to remove a small amount of the gum tissue, revealing more of the tooth structure and giving your smile a more aesthetic appearance.

  • Osseous Surgery

Our dentists may recommend osseous (bone) surgery, also known as pocket reduction surgery. The procedure is designed to smooth and reshape bone that has been damaged by periodontal (gum) disease, as well as to create a shallow pocket that makes it more difficult for bacteria to survive.

  • Scaling and Root Planing

Scaling and root planing is one of the most common and effective treatments recommended for gum disease. Scaling and root planing is a type of deep dental cleaning used by our dentists to remove plaque, tartar, and harmful bacteria from your mouth. For most patients, scaling and root planing is enough to prevent periodontal disease from progressing further.

  • Sinus Lifts

If you are receiving dental implants to replace upper teeth, our dentists may recommend that you receive a sinus lifting procedure. Sinus lifts add synthetic bone tissue in your upper jaw, ensuring that your implants have sufficient support. We typically allow a healing period of four to nine months after this procedure so the grafted material can mesh with the natural bone.

Why Sedation May Be Right for You

Cambridge Family Dentistry offers sedation (patient asleep) dentistry to help relieve fear and anxiety, ensuring you feel comfortable and relaxed during your appointment. We provide several sedation options to meet your needs and help you receive the care you need. For more information on sedation dentistry and how it can make your dental experience more pleasant, we welcome you to contact us today.

I have been going to Cambridge Family Dentistry for over two years. My dental work was not simple, and most dentists had advised I would not be able to receive implants due to the lack of my remaining gum structure. I am extremely grateful to my dentist for going above and beyond most doctors’ comfort zones and making my implants happen! - J. Crowder
