Dr. Polk says his passion for dentistry dates back to his high school years. He believes dentistry is the ideal profession as he enjoys improving people’s oral health while making them feel comfortable in the dental chair. He has a knack for making anxious or nervous patients relax as he likes to make people laugh.
Dr. Polk says the people of Kansas can’t be beat as everyone is so friendly. The people of Wichita, he says, have “a very high dental IQ” as they are motivated to care for their teeth.
Dr. Polk has plenty of personal interests. He earned his pilot’s license in 2006, for example, and met the criteria to get his SCCA (Sports Car Club of America) racing license as well. He is an avid golfer and loves to play golf with his fiancé and stepchildren. He also enjoys board games, watching movies, and “driving around for no apparent reason.”
Some of Dr, Polk’s other activities include fishing and singing. He was choir director for First United Methodist Church for 10 years. He says, “If God gives you a gift, you should share it.” But, he jokes, he never sings while flying as Air Traffic Control might find that a bit annoying.
What is Dr. Polk’s one piece of advice for us all? Don’t play leapfrog with a unicorn! Of course, he’s just kidding about that. On a more serious note, he encourages us all to keep our chins up. He feels that most of the things we worry about often aren’t as bad as we may think.
Dr. Polk is excited about his career at Cambridge and looks forward to meeting new patients.
